In Syracuse, protests have continued since May 30 in the name of George Floyd. This image by Cherilyn Beckles and others from local protests can be viewed on the Everson Museum of Art as part of the Urban Video Project's outdoor architectural projection.

Poem: Mr. George Floyd

5/25/20

I Wonder

What was in his mind when he woke up that morning?

I Wonder

What was in his mind when he climbed out of bed that morning?

I Wonder

What was in his mind when he washed his face and brushed his teeth that morning?

I Wonder

What was he thinking when he ate his breakfast that morning?

I Wonder

When he left the house what was in his heart?

I Wonder

What was in his heart, were his children in his heart?

I Wonder

What was in his heart? Was it how he was going to pay his bills or buy gas for his car, or pay his phone bill?

I Wonder

What was in his heart?

I Wonder

Was he thinking about his unemployment benefits?

I Wonder

What was in his heart that morning?

I Wonder

I wonder if he had uneasiness in his soul.

I Wonder

I wonder what was he thinking when God woke him up that morning?

Did he know?

THAT

He would affect Minneapolis

Did he know?

He would affect persons all across America

Did he know?

He would affect the operations of small cities

Did he know?

He would affect neighborhoods in large cities

Did he know?

He would affect people across the globe?

Did he know?

He would bring people to their knees?

Did he know?

He would cause the people to think a different way?

Did he know?

He would cause the people to listen a different way?

Did he know?

He would cause the people to love a different way?

Did he know?

He would cause laws to change?

Did he know?

He would cause those in power to look within?

Did he know?

He would re-open wounds that has deeper healings to occur?

Did he know?

That the last day of his life would be the first day of a worldwide impartation of a progression of an eternal change in our hearts and world?

DID HE KNOW?

“Mary Did You Know?”
