The Stand Photo Bash

Wildflowers Armory 217 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY, United States

Light Work’s Urban Video Project in partnership with The Stand Newspaper will host a Photo Bash, a celebration of 2022 Syracuse Photo Contest winners, Aug. 21, at Wildflowers Armory. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. where photo prizes will be awarded to winners, and raffle prizes will include guest passes to the Everson Museum of Art and gift cards to Wildflowers Armory. Attendees will then parade over to the Everson Community Plaza to view the winning images screened by Light Work UVP on the façade of the Everson. The outdoor screening will begin after 8 p.m. Winning community images will be displayed Sunday through Tuesday, Aug. 21–23, starting at dusk each night.

2022 Dream Summit

The 2022 Dream Summit will begin with a lineup of nationally renowned guests including Emmy Award winning journalist Jemele Hill; documentarian, journalist, author and philanthropist Soledad O’Brien; pastor and social activist the Rev. Dr. Fredrick Douglass Haynes III; NFL Superbowl Champion and entrepreneur Dorsey Levens, and more. Summit participants will be able to listen to featured speakers and interviews on the main stage, engage with panelists and presenters during breakout sessions and interact with the many vendors, business owners, organizer and other attendees. Breakout sessions will be offered on such topics as health, wealth and development of the Black community including “Buying Back the Block," “Cultivating a Space in Tech," and an educational session on navigating the landscape as a minority-owned business in the “MWBE Panel."

Healthy Housing 101

The city of Syracuse Division of Code Enforcement's Healthy Housing 101 event is an educational event for the entire community. Code inspectors will lead tours throughout a Greater Syracuse Land Bank property to point out the various code violations that may cause unhealthy or unsafe living conditions. The goal of the event is to educate the community on the Code Enforcement process and how to address violations to keep community living conditions safe and healthy.
